The government’s strong commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has positioned Bangladesh on a trajectory to eliminate extreme poverty by 2031 and moderate poverty by 2041. However, despite these macro-level gains, deep-seated disparities persist, particularly among marginalized and vulnerable populations such as the rural poor, ethnic minorities, indigenous communities, tea garden workers, and women. The benefits of development often bypass these groups, perpetuating cycles of inequality, exclusion, and injustice.

In response to these pressing challenges, Bangladesh Humanitarian Aid and Relief (BAHAR) was established in 2013 under the visionary leadership of Dr. Abdullah Al Masud. BAHAR emerged as a transformative force driven by a passionate cadre of rural youth, with a mission to advance social justice, equity, and inclusive growth. BAHAR’s establishment reflects a bold response to Bangladesh’s most critical humanitarian and developmental needs, aligning its work with international frameworks and best practices in the humanitarian sector.
